Coming up in Pre K
For the
first two weeks of September the pre-k group will be studying the topics “all
about me, family and school community”. We will be using a variety of methods
to learn about these themes including math, science, language, writing and
social studies. We will practice writing letters and our words for the
week. We will make lists of different
places and people we see around our community. We will be able to play a fire
truck number bingo as well as a community helper’s bingo. We will play matching
games and read books that pertain to these themes. We will make maps of our
community as well. We will be turning our dramatic play area into a restaurant.
The children will make ‘all about me books’ that they can share with their
peers and families.
For the
second two weeks of September the children will be exploring life cycles,
experimenting, and shapes. We will look closely at the life cycles of a frog
and a butterfly using book and pictures. The children will be able to use
shapes to construct their own bugs and insects. We will do patterns, numbering
1-10 and sizing for this theme as well. We will take nature walks and complete
scavenger hunts to see what we can find.
We will use our sensory big to conducts different experiments using
water. This week we will also start learning about the letter Aa. To learn about
this letter and letter sounds we will play games, sing songs and practice
writing the letter Aa.
Excitement
in Pre School
This September in the preschool, we will be learning about each other
and our families. We will also be learning about our school community.
We will be starting a letter of the week, beginning with “A” the week of
Sept. 2. We will also be doing a shape of the week, starting with a circle that
same week.
For our all about us/family theme, we will begin by reading the story “I
Like Me” we will talk about some of our “favorites” like colors, food, books,
etc. We will be graphing our data and talking about our similarities and
differences. We will make a collage using pictures of ourselves, family
members, and loved ones. At circle time, we will share with each other our collages
and talk about the important people in our lives. Preschoolers will also be
making “marvelous me” paper dolls unique to themselves.
The following 2 weeks we will be talking about life cycles, shapes, and
experimenting. We will talk about the life cycle of an apple, color, cut and
clue the life cycle. We will also be doing play dough shape mats, where the
children manipulate play dough into different shapes. Other activities: shape
hunt (outside and inside), shape bingo, and more.
At the end of the month, we will start our fall theme, and talk about
fall activities and events, and do some special fall crafts. We will do various
sensory activities with leaves, acorns, and other things we find in nature.
One’s Room
What a busy and fun time we have been having in
the One’s room over the past months! We have been bonding and have settled into
our routines and classroom.
For the month of September we will continue
working on fine and gross motor skills, language development by reading,
singing songs and using repetitious activities that promote learning and
growth.
As always we will incorporate sensory play and
activities as part of our curriculum in the One’s room. Sensory activities are
an important part of a toddler’s development and growth, children learn so much
while playing and exploring with new materials. It is important for all
children to gain and explore in the fun experience.
Bridge Room with Miss Kellie
A lot will be happening in the Bridge room in
the next few weeks. We will continue our work learning colors, shapes, and the
A,B,C’s. We will be exploring ‘All about ourselves’ and sharing family photos
with each other.
I will continue working with all of our friends
using kind words, learning to share and taking turns. We recently started
working with scissors, which is a new fine motor skill for most of them. They
all love it and we will continue to practice.
I will continue to work with each child on
potty training as well, and be in communication with parents on progress.
My overall goal in the Bridge room is to
prepare the children for preschool in order to make a smooth transition for
them.
Art with Ms. Kate
As we start the school
year we will begin building our classroom and school community. For our
September art activities we will explore self-awareness with mirror portraits,
friend portraits and dolls. We will
promote a school community by having class discussions and displaying our
portraits together.
We will also be starting
our Kid Logic heart of hands in the studio room. Our heart will grow throughout
the school years as friends add hands to our heart.
After School Club
In our new after school
club we will be learning about classroom rules as well as building trust
between teacher and friends. We will also life cycles using some fun science
experiments.
Ms. K’s Twos
The month of September
will be busy in the Two’s room. We will be focusing on shapes and colors,
learning about life cycles and talking about fall.
We will be providing
activities that encourage social and cognitive development that will continue
to focus on social and emotional skills. We are working on turn taking and
sharing as well as using gentle hands. Continuing to use words to communicate
our needs and wants is an important part of our language goal in the Two’s
room.
I am very excited to be
a part of your child’s learning and development.

Catamount
This past week our older friends in the preschool, pre-K and summer program groups have been spending some time at Catamount Outdoor Family Fun Center with Kristen.
We went on a scavenger hunt and collected interesting pieces from nature to make fairy houses. We also made view finders so that we could isolate items we wanted to inspect.
We made sail boats out of corks, tooth picks, pennies and paper and used direct wind to make then sail.
Then let them go in the pond. We also went for a great nature walk.
What a great experience Catamount was.

Parent Portal and New Child Log In/Out
The Parent Portal is now available online. The parent portal will enable you to pay tuition, edit contact information and register for enrichment programs online.
The password for the parent portal is the same password that you used in the new check in/out system that we are using in the front entrance of the school. If either it is not working or you would like to change the password, follow this link, then press the "Forgot Password" and enter your email address. You will be sent a temporary password to your email address and then be able to log in and create a new one. This will also be the one you will then use for the check in/out laptop at school.
Starting Monday we will have a laptop in the entrance of the school to sign your child in and out. You will use your password and will then be prompted. You will also be able to view your balance and any notes we may have for you, for example: diapers needed, yoga starts Monday.
If you have any questions or any concerns come up, please email me, Jessica, at jlamorey@gmail.com and I will be happy to address them at once.
